Research Assistant

Dr. Sara Parent, N.D., is a Research Assistant in the Natural and Medicinal Products Division of AIBMR Life Sciences.

Dr. Parent began her study of science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude). At Polytechnic Institute she gained laboratory experience in tissue extraction, chromatography, ultracentrifugation, spectrophotometric analysis, and electrophoresis.
After leaving New York, she came to Seattle, WA, where she obtained a license in massage therapy from the Brenneke School of Massage. Soon thereafter she completed four years of post-graduate education to earn a doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. After completing various preceptorships with naturopathic physicians in Washington, Massachusetts. Vermont and New York, she passed the national board examination for graduates of accredited schools of naturopathic medicine and became a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Parent used her expertise both as a clinician in private practice and as a consulting naturopathic physician at Rainbow Natural Remedies, a specialized retailer of dietary supplements in Seattle, Washington.  As a general practitioner, she treated patients with conditions ranging from diabetes and heart disease to auto-immune disease and allergy.  In addition, as a member of Alternative Heathcare Access Campaign (AHAC), Dr. Parent volunteers her skills as a massage therapist to care for low-income and homeless individuals residing in metropolitan Seattle.  

Dr. Parent is especially fascinated by the chemistry of life-- the multitudinous interactions between human and plant biochemistry and the elegant, often symbiotic, result. She is proud to be a member of the scientific community that strives to illuminate some of the details of this symbiosis, and thus play a key roll in improving the health of individuals, the community, and the planet.
